Game Skeleton (:
In Globaloria we have been working on our game skeleton. However we recently finished it. The game demo was very hard at first because there was so much in flash that we still needed to learn since it's a different program this year. This year flash is alot easier to use because you can make animations and designs really easy. After we learned some new stuff about flash it was really easy to do all the other stuff. The easiest thing about the game skeleton was making some of the designs. It didn't take very long at all to do this. However the hardest thing to do was probably all the animations. We had to take a screenshot of our first game scene and since it was a screenshot we couldn't make the actual character move. We had difficulty with this so we deciced to use animations in other ways. We decided to make other things around the screenshot move such as WV logos and flowers among many other things. Even thoug the game skeleton was ahrd at first it was still very fun to do because it was a new experience in flash.

3 things you should do during a presentation
Today in Globaloria we wtched a video about doing presentations. In the video it showed how caring about what you're talking about can affect the mood. If your slurring and not paying attention to what you say it shows that you just don't care. When you talk you have to be loud. Another thing is looking up whenyou talk. If you constantly look down at the paper they know that you dont know what your talking about. So you have to memorize some of it and look up when you talk. The final thing to do is take turns with your partner. If one person talks then the team isn't being interactive and it sounds better if everyone talks. So that's how to have a good presentation! (:

Thanksgiving Break!! (:
This week is our last week of school before Thanksgiving break. This year we got nine days off of school for Thanksgiving which is great! That means that I get to sleep in for nine days in a row and no more getting up at 5:30 to get ready. Usually on Thanksgiving break my family comes in from Florida but this year they don't get to come in. Which makes me sad because i'm gonna miss them. So my cousins will probably just come and spend the day with us. On Thankgiving we have so much fun everybody eats and then we just sit around and tlak for hours. Then the day after we all usually go shopping but this year only me and mawmaw are going. Instead of going to Mercer Mall we decided that we would probably go to Charleston. I'm gonna miss my friends at school but i'll probably see most of them over the break. I can''t wait for Thanksgiving break! (:

My Partners!
This year my partners are Amber and Kaitlin. The three of us are all bestfriends so we get along & work together really well. Sometimes we argue but so does everyone else. In our game we each have a role or part that we need to do on our own. Recently we finished our game demo skeleton and now we are just adding designs to it. Kaitlin is very good in game design and she is the one who usually works on that. Amber is really good at making the codes and everything work like it's supposed to. There is only one thing that we all need to improve on which is staying on task. We usually stay on task but sometimes we don't. Globaloria is alot easier this year because flash already has some of the codes added to it. This year is also more fun than last year because now i'm with my two bestfriends. We will all work very hard this year to make sure our game gets comleted and that it is fun for the player. (:

Paper Prototyping (:
-The Big Idea: Describe your team's game topic. What is the most important concept you want your players to learn? Our game topic is about the Allegheny Plateau and some of the activities that are available there. I want them to learn alot of cool new facts about the Allegheny Plateau.
-Making Decisions as a Team: How did your individual ideas from "Imagining Your Game" come together for your team game topic? How did your team decide the topic? Well at first we were going to make a game all about the Titanic but then once we looked at the CSO's we decided to change to " Adventures in The Allegheny Plateau."
-Roles & Responsibilities: Tell us more about your team process. Please each talk about your specific roles, and how you work together. As a team we decided that we were all gonna work on our team design so everyone has a part in that. I will work on making the buttons work and making sure our team page is updated, Kaitlin is in charge of hittest, & Amber is in charge of making the objects move with the arrow keys.
-Research: What kind of research went into the way you will express the game topic? When we made our paper prototype lot of thought, planning & research went into it. We had to make sure all our answers to our questions were correct so we could go ahead and start he game skeleton.
-The User Experience: Explain the game play. What actions does the player take in the game? Has this changed since you first started planning your game? Why? In our game the only thing that has changed is our game topic our gameplay is still the same. The actions in our game are hit test and the arrow key movement. The player will use the arrow keys o move the object and hittest to tell if you get the question right or not.
-Mastering Flash: What Flash resources have been most helpful in your learning so far, and why? How did you locate these resources? We learned about these sources by watching the flash tutorials and from other classmates. This year our flash is alot better because it has so many different things that you can do. The thing that is probably most helpful is the animations. They make they game alot prettier and easier for us.
-Overcoming Challenges: What curriculum topic has been most difficult for you so far? How did you overcome this difficulty? The most difficult thing so far is the game skeleton. We are still working on it but it's been a real challenge to get this far. However I know we will get finished with it.

Non-Quiz
Today in globaloria we watched a video about quiz games & non-quiz games so that we could see the difference. We also learned how to change your game around so that it's not a quiz game. A quiz game is not interactive or fun for the player. However a non-quiz game is very fun and interative. It also involves alot of actions and animations. I think it's more fun to play when it's not a quiz game because theres more stuff that the player can do. Last year my game was a quiz game and we had to start all over but I didn't have that problem this year. This year my problem was that my topic wasn'ton my grade level so we recently had to start over but we're still not behind.

My Game Ideas (:
So this year our game is about the Titanic. I have alot of cool, new ideas for this years game and so do my partners. We think that by teaching about the Titanic it will be more fun to play and hopfully they will learn alot as well. This week in Globaloria we started our paper prototypes, we have changed alot of ideas about ideas from the beginning of the year. We think that the player might be driving the Titanic and they have to answer questions correctly so that they don't hit an iceberg. The player will use the arrow keys to navigate the boat to the correct answer to avoid hitting an iceberg & sinking the Titanic. The player will learn alot of new cool stuff about the Titanic and some of the people that were on the Titanic. I think that our game will be really interactive and fun for the player as well.

What I like & dislike about Globaloria.
Right now Globaloria is very exciting and fun. We are learning more new things, and we even have a new flash. I havealready learned aot ofnewstuff in Globaloria this year. Last year we used flash 3.0 & this year we use CS 3.5. The new flash is alot easier to work with than the old flash is. The new flash also has alot of cool new things on it. It has animation and you don't even have to use a code to get it to work. There isn't anything that I dislike about Globaloria because it's fun & you get to learn alot of new stuff. I really can't wait to start our new game. To see my wiki page click HERE! (:

Participation Guidelines.
- What does it mean to have a 'single story' about a place or community?
- Describe a single story you have heard told about your community. What is missing from that story? How could people learn more about that community?
- Describe a single story you have heard about another community. How did you learn that story? How could you find out more about that community?
- How could a game let players experience many stories about a place or community?
A single story can sometimes be good or bad. A single story is an opinion about a place or community. If you know a bad person from there they assume it isn't a good place. One place i've heard about is New York. There is alot of crime in New York so I assume it's a bad place. However that's not always the case. Just because someone is not a good person doesn't mean where they're from is a bad place. The only way to know if it's a bad place is if you visited that place yourself then you would know if it reallyis a bad place. The players could learn alot from our game about what the Titantic really was & what really happened.

Imagining Your game!! (:
WHO are you designing your game for? (Include the player's age, abilities, and prior knowledge of your topic.) I design my game for other students our age to play. We're going to target 8th graders.
WHAT will your game teach the player about your topic? (Be specific!) Our game will teach the player alot of cool facts about the Titantic. It will also teach about alot of things that happened on the Titantic.
WHERE does your game happen?
Describe the world you will design for your game.
How will this setting add to the learning experience?
Our game will be in the North Atlantic Ocean. It will be designed for anyone who wants to play it. However we're making it at an eigth grade level. This setting will help the learning experiencebecause it will seem more real to the player.

HOW does your game world teach the player about your topic?
What happens in the world that helps the player learn?
How does the player use what they learned to make something happen in the game?
We want te player to learn alot of new stuff about the Titantic so in the game the player will be driving the boat & will have to avoid obstcles a.k.a questions to get the people onboard to safety.

WHY is a game a better way of understanding your topic than a quiz? If it's a quiz you don't learn as much & it's not as fun. It's better to make a game so the player will enjoy learning about the Titantic.

Playing to Learn (:
After playing these these games the one that I thought was most effective in teaching you different stuff was "learn the new bones". The genre of that game was puzzles & mazes so that's the genre I want to use for my game. This genre really helps you learn alot of new stuff. From playing "Learn the Bones" I learned alot of new stuff about the human body. I got to learn where all your bones are & what their called. On this game everything worked all the buttons, the hittest, & the drag and drop. The graphics on this game were really good it was very colorful and interative for the players. I really enjoyed this game. The game that was least efective in teaching you anything was "Survivor". This game didn't teach you anything at all. All you have to do is run around and jump over obstacles. The genre of this game was action so I don't think i'll make my game about that. If I do I will be sure to make it to where you learn alot of new stuff.

Well this year when I started I was very excited about another year in Globaloria. Last year the topic was math so my partner Hannah & I made a rocketship game about plotting points. I learned alot of new things last year and this year it will be easier for me since I already know alot about globaloria. This year my partner is my BESTfriend Amber (: & our topic is historical events. So we decided that we are goin to make a game about the Titantic. This year AMber & I are hoping to create a very interactive game that also halps you learn alot. This game is goin to be very fun as well.We are very excited about this new year in Globaloria & we hope that you like our game when we are finished.! <3 (:

westest!
Well on this blog we have to write about how we think we did on the westest. So the easiest part for me on the westest was math I think I did the best on that part. The hardest parts were reading and social studies I still think I did good on that though. I know I did better on math than any other part. Science wasn't easy but it wasn't hard either I think I did pretty good on that part as well. I really hope I did great on the westest! <3

Almost Done!
Our game is not completely done but the only thing we have to do is finish hit test. We don't understand how to do hit test but we are learning. We finished everything else on our game we got the rocketship moving with the arrow keys and we got all our buttons working. Our math theme is plotting so there will be a grid in the top right hand corner and you will have to use the arrow keys to move the rocket to the correct answer.

Internet Safety!!!
There are a lot of reasons you shold be careful with what you put on the internet and also what you do on the internet. If you don't watch what you put on the internet you could get seriously hurt. Some creepy guy might take your information and find out where you live. To stay sofe on the internet you should never put where you live, your phone number, or your last name. By doing these things it will help you stay safe on the internet. So just be careful!

Arrow Keys!
In our game we will be using arrow keys. The player will use the arrow keys to make to rocket move around the screen. You will have to use the arrow keys to move the rocket to the correct answer. Using the arrow keys will help make the game more interactive to play. It makes the math concept more fun to play! I hope you enjoy our game!

Student Motivation! :D
I have played a lot of online games but one game that has really helped me is called Flower Power. This game is very cool and fun. It also helps you learn a lot. It helped me learn from my mistakes so I could correct them. Games are a very fun way to learn math and imakes students like math more. In our game sine wechose a different topic there aren't many things we could use in our game. They used drag and drop and we are using arrow keys. We could use some of the design plans though. By playing these games it helps kids become smarter and really enjoy learning new things. I really enjoyed playing this game!!!

Flash Experience
Today we are blogging about our experiences in flash, the tutorials, the best part of our game, and the special effects our game will have. We have accomplished a lot of stuff in flash we learned a lot about the flash progam. There are a lot of things you can do in flash a lot more than I thought you could. This year we have watched a lot of tutorials in flash such as how to add buttons, animation, and at the begginning of the year we wached a basic flash tutorial. These tutorial helped me learn a lot about flash. Our game will have a lot of sound effects to go with every scene and also a lot of animation. By doing this it will make the game more fun to play and it will also be more interactive. The best part of our game is probally the design is very unique since were girls and our game is about rockets. Our design plan is made for boys or girls.

Online Educational Games
There are thousands of educational games online and I think educational games are good for children who go to school. Educational games are a fun way to learn new stuff and still have fun. I have played a lot of educational games such as on study island and coolmath. Also for my nintendo ds I used to play a game called Brain Age. I learned a lot from playing these games such as how to plot points, exponents and about rounding numbers to the nearest whole. These games create a great new learning experience for students. I really enjoy playing these games online.

Three things I like About My Game and 1 Thing I need to Improve
Well even though my game isn't complete I know what the game is going to look like. The three things that I like are the design, the objective, and the graphics. I want the design to match the theme so it will all go together. The objective is how the game works and what the player has to do to win the game. I want the graphics to be really unique and unusual. The one I thing I would like to improve is the gameplay. I would like to make it move interactive with the player and that would make if fun to play!

What I Accomplished this week in Flash!
This week we have been mainly trying to make sure our instruction screenand title screen is complete. The title scene was complete so we worked on the instruction screen. This week me and my partner accomplished making my instruction screen and making sure that my buttons work on that screen. We are still working on this screen with the sound and some of the design. This screen will be completed in no time!

My favorite thing about Globaloria!
Well so far i've worked on a lot of stuff in Globaloria. My favorite would have to be working with animations. Animations isn't really that hard and I think it's really fun. Also I like the topic drawing scenes. It gives me a chance to be creative and do my work. I have enjoyed learning a lot of different things in Globaloria and I can't wait to learn more.

Presenting My Demo!! :)
At first I thought that presenting my demo was going to be really hard and I was really nervous. I wasn't sure about what I was going to say. After I got started I realized it wasn't hard at all. I actually liked presenting it. Some of the comments were like how can you make it more interactive for the player. So my team member and I thought about the comment and decided to change the game up a little bit. We added a timer and we added a new scene where you have to put in the coordinates to where you want to launch. By doing this we think it will help the player be more engaged in the game and will like playing it more. I liked everything about presenting our game it really helped us understand more about making games.

My Development Topic!
This week we are blogging about the hardest part of our math concept. Our math concept is plotting. The hardest part to a lot of people about plotting is to know if you go across or up first. When you first learn about plotting that is probably the hardest part. To help other people learn more about how to plot I would probably give really good instructions in my game. They could also look up a tutorial on the topic. So that's what I think is the hardest concept to learn! <3
